My Lotus personalized license plate reads “SINCE77″.
Here’s why.
1977 was one of my very favorite years. For the following reasons (and more that I cannot think of at the moment):
- Star Wars was released. You should know by now what effect that has had on my life.
- So was the James Bond movie The Spy Who Loved Me, which featured the very first appearance of the Lotus Esprit. That year I made a promise to myself that I would have a Lotus Esprit someday. Over 25 years later I’m on my third Esprit, and looking to get an new Elise to keep her company.
- Me and my best friend Joe Thompson wrote a screenplay that year.
- I started playing soccer for the area league team. Played and coached until my second year of college. Still follow MLS and English Premier League. Go Manchester United!
- Also it was my first year in Junior High School. My foray into adulthood, as it were.
- Georgio Moroder’s solo disco album was out. I saw it on TV on the news and went to Camelot records in Rivergate Mall to find it, and listened to it round the clock for way too long. Still have it. “Baby Blue” rocks to this very day.
- Saturday Night Fever came out. My parents bought the double album LP for me and my brother for valentine’s day. I also wore that out. Bee Gees rock.
- Our family moved from the suburbs to the family farm on the outskirts of town. I had space to do almost anything I wanted. Some of my fondest memories are of that place and the time we all spent there. I miss my mom. 
- Seven (actually 77) has turned out to be my lucky number. Look out.
